Occupational Health and EHS

University Health and Counseling Services

Case Western Reserve University maintains a health surveillance program for personnel engaged in research with vertebrate animals or laboratory research involving recombinant/synthetic nucleic acid molecules that requires Biosafety Level 3 containment. An occupational health medical history form is submitted to and reviewed by University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS), which will work directly with researchers to address any concerns of increased risk in the event of an exposure. Any available vaccines that may provide risk-based agent-specific immune protection will be considered.

Environmental Health and Safety Office

The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) promotes the health and safety of the CWRU community and its environment. EHS provides services to support research while maintaining regulatory compliance, such as training, education and facilities assessments, as well as integration with compliance committees such as the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Institutional Biosafety Committee. In the event of an exposure or accident in the laboratory, EHS and UHCS are both involved in response and monitoring.
