Prospectus of Work for Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority

Dr. Karal Ann Marling, Assistant Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University, wished that her papers join those of Ernest J. Bohn, who had assisted her research and whose papers contain records of his participation, as director of the Metropolitan Housing Authority, in the original federal New Deal art programs. Consequently, Dr. Marling donated the papers to Case Western Reserve University Library in 1977.

Digital Case Mission

Digital Case, Case Western Reserve University's electronic repository and archive, stores, disseminates, and preserves faculty research in digital formats (both "born digital" and materials of historic interest that have been digitized). Organizing and maintaining published materials has long been the domain of research libraries. With the Digital Case project, the Kelvin Smith Library assumes a more active role in the scholarly communication process, providing expertise in the form of a set of services (metadata tagging, authority control, secure environment, preservation over time) for access and distribution of Case's collective intellectual product.

Digital Case:

  • Serves as a visible indicator of Case Western Reserve University's contribution to world-wide scholarship.
  • Distributes scholarly special collections, research, and writings in a variety of formats
  • Includes a dedicated site for collections of digitized papers of historical interest.
  • Fosters new constructions of knowledge by enabling colleagues with similar research and teaching interests to collaborate efficiently and effectively.
  • Showcases Case electronic theses/dissertations.
  • Makes available collections of data and records, which have not been fully exploited, analyzed, and published; data that researchers will continue to examine, study, and write about; data that should not be thrown away.
  • Creates an additional, easily accessible forum for integrating academic resources in University Circle.
