Guilford House was first used as a residence hall for the College for Women. It later served for many years as the French House for summer school language programs and as the first graduate student dormitory on the campus. Renovation plans provide for office and classroom space as well as room for the Western Reserve College continuing education program. Guilford, designed by the Cleveland firm of Coburn and Barnum, was a gift of Flora Stone Mather. She named it in honor of Linda Guilford, her teacher at Cleveland Academy.
