Clark Hall, the College for Women's first building, houses the Philosophy
department's offices and classrooms. The counterpart to Adelbert
Main, Clark Hall once had a gymnasium on the top floor, a library,
and a recreation center as well as classrooms. Eliza A. Clark gave
$100,000 for the building; Mr. and Mrs. Jeptha H. Wade gave the
land. The building is the only one in Cleveland designed by Richard
Morris Hunt of New York. It was dedicated on the same day as
Guilford Cottage, October 24, 1892.
