16. Adelbert Gymnasium (1888) Tour Locations

Adelbert Gymnasium, designed by Clarence Arey, was the third building on the Adelbert College campus. In the early 1900s, university trustees discussed building a new gymnasium but ended up constructing an armory for World War I training programs. By the time the building, designed by Charles W. Hopkinson, was completed in 1919, the war is over. It has since been used for less martial purposes. The armory incorporated the original gymnasium, which can be found in the southwest corner of the building. The gymnasium is currently used for physical education classes and some intramural activities.
