Academic happy hour slated

An interactive dialogue between faculty and students, to be facilitated by President Edward M. Hundert, about experiential learning at Case Western Reserve University will take place during the 11th Annual Academic Happy Hour from 3:30-5 p.m. February 6 in Thwing Ballroom.

In addition to the discussion, free burritos and tacos from Chipotles and beverages will be served.

Med school to bestow honor

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine faculty, who engage in medical education at any level, are invited to participate in a new program to recognize excellent contributions.

To participate, faculty should respond to the educational activities they should already have received.

Award-winning play to open

Case Western Reserve University's Eldred Theater will premiere "Constellations" by Deborah DeGeorge, the 27th winner of Case's Marc A. Klein Playwriting Award.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on February 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21, with two matinees at 2:30 p.m. on February 15 and 22.

Hundert to discuss empowerment

Case Western Reserve University's Staff Advisory Council (SAC) will host a discussion on staff empowerment with President Edward M. Hundert from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. February 2 in Strosacker Auditorium.

The event will kickoff a campus-wide staff empowerment initiative spearheaded by SAC.

Material Support offers services

Case Western Reserve University's Material Support division is offering the campus community free training sessions in financials, basic purchasing and package delivery, research purchasing, mail, moving and courier services and travel services.

Art on display at Mandel School

Case Western Reserve University's Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences is carrying an exhibition of works by local professional artists and others organized by Art on Wheels Inc. through February 15.

The exhibit includes 50 works of art, by 43 artists. The majority of the works on display were created by persons with disabilities. The works appear in a variety of media, including water color, fabric and acrylic. All are for sale at prices ranging from $125 to $175.

Service award candidates needed

Case Western Reserve University's Staff Advisory Council is calling for nominations for the 2004 President's Award for Distinguished Service.

Start-up companies to compete

The annual Case Western Reserve University Case-Weatherhead Business Launch Competition will feature bioscience and technology start-up companies with business concepts in life sciences.

Executive summaries for the annual Northeast Ohio contest are due February 5.

Health center to host seminar

The Center for Health Promotion Research at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine will host a talk by Shirley M. Moore, an associate professor at Case's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, on "Patterns and Predictors of Lifestyle Exercise after a Cardiac Event" from noon to 1 p.m. January 30 in room 105 of the Biomedical Research Building.

Journalism lectures to continue

The 2004 Susie Gharib Distinguished Lectureship in Journalism Series at Case Western Reserve University continues with "Making it Matter: Writing With and About Passion" by Susan Orlean from "The New Yorker" magazine at noon February 18 in 206 Clark Hall.

Student to make stage debut

Mary Gen Fjelstad, a third-year Case Western Reserve University MFA candidate in the joint acting program with The Cleveland Play House, will make her main stage debut in Neil Simon's "The Dinner Party," through February 1 at the Drury Theater.

New support group to start

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community who grew up with a family member who was alcohol or drug dependent can find support from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays in the University Health Services and University Counseling Services/Center for Collegiate Behavioral Health. The group is strictly confidential.

Schiff to be remembered

Case Western Reserve University will conduct a memorial service for Edward Schiff, professor emeritus in the psychology department at the School of Medicine, at 3 p.m. January 30 in Amasa Stone Chapel. A reception will follow in the Tomlinson Hall gallery.
