Snap survey available online

The online Software Center now is offering Snap survey software free to all faculty, staff and students.

Snap is a suite of integrated software programs for questionnaire design, data collection and data analysis. The core product, "Snap 7 Pronet with PDA and Network Interview," provides the ability to conduct surveys based on Web sites and PDAs, as well as face-to-face and telephone interviews.

"Snap 7 with Scanning Module" is also offered at a cost of $250 for members of the campus community who wish to scan paper-based surveys.

University Library training classes on the survey software are planned for this fall. Details are forthcoming.

Research seminars to begin

The 2003-2004 Research Seminar Series sponsored by Case's offices of Sponsored Projects Administration, Research Compliance and Technology Transfer begins September 12.

The seminars aid researchers in understanding the grants and contracts process, as well as regulatory requirements.

The first set of seminars will provide information for participants in the humans subjects Continuing Research Education Credit Program.

New SAC members elected

More than 25 staff members have been elected by their peers to serve on the University's Staff Advisory Council.

Each will serve a two-year term beginning September 15.

Newly elected SAC representatives are Evelyn Cheatham and Tim Hamilton, academic administration; Curtis O'Neal and Aruno Johnson, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences; Mike Schiavo and Brian Sherman, dentistry; Kathy Hanning and Shelli Snyder, nursing; and Terri Geiger, Pamela Tyree, Robin Kramer, Veronica Campbell, Michele Randa, Monica Leigh, Doreen Thibodeau, Chris (Zaremsky) Anderson, Gail McGhee, Michelle Saafir, James Sears, Lynmarie Hamel, Shirley Mele, Judith Fallon, Danielle Morris, Tawanna Armstrong, Carmen Fontana and Sandy Youngeberg-Fox, all from University administration.

Two representatives are elected from each management center, and additional representatives are allocated to each with more than 50 employees.

Next year elections will be conducted in the School of Medicine, School of Law, College of Arts and Sciences, Weatherhead School of Management and Case School of Engineering.

University contracts with FedEx

Case has entered into a five-year partnership agreement with Federal Express.

The agreement will provide Case with improved discounts, easy to use shipping-management tools and a Web-based shipping process.

Department administrators soon will be contacted to begin the training process for this comprehensive program of domestic and international outbound shipments.

Time change for Robbins' service

The memorial service for Frederick C. Robbins, medical school dean emeritus and University Professor emeritus, now will be at 5 p.m.-rather than 4 p.m.-September 19 in Harkness Chapel.

Aging center seeks volunteers

The University Memory and Aging Center (UMAC) is seeking experienced African-American actors, age 55-65, to appear in "For Pete's Sake," an educational play about an man who is developing Alzheimer's disease.

"For Pete's Sake," which is written by DaNine K. Ward and directed by Tony Sias, will be performed four times in November, which is Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

UMAC also is seeking research volunteers over 50 years of age, with or without memory problems, for its registry and research studies.

Google session rescheduled

Case 101: "Outsmarting Google: How to Find Real Online Information Fast," to be presented by Karen Oye from the University Library, has been rescheduled from noon to 1 p.m. September 15—rather than September 17—in 720 Crawford.

Eldercare meeting is moved

Case's Eldercare Resource Group has changed the date of its next meeting from September 17 to 1 p.m. September 22 in Crawford 13.

During the meeting, Amy Severino from Home Instead will address accessibility and home safety issues for seniors.

Home Instead also is providing lunch for this meeting. People who plan to attend should RSVP by September 12 to Carolyn Gerich at carolyn.gerich@case.edu or 368-2458.
