Bolton school conducts first-ever flight nurse camp

Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in partnership with Cleveland's MetroHealth Medical Center conduct the nation's first-ever "summer camp" for training flight nurses and emergency service personnel in terrorism and emergency response.
The weeklong National Flight Nurse Academy summer camp, which including training with MetroHealth's LifeFlight helicopter (right), took place at Squire Valleevue Farm and focused on methods for quickly securing and decontaminating disaster sites and treating victims.
The camp concluded with a simulated rescue from an automobile accident (right). The academy, the nation's first degreed program for training flight nurses used in air medical services, is part of the master's degree program at the Bolton School. Its first class consists of about 20 students, including personnel from MetroHealth, several Northeast Ohio fire departments and the University Circle police force as well as Case students.
