Arts and sciences hires communications director

Catherine Varga, of Cuyahoga Falls, has joined CWRU as the new director of publications and communications for the College of Arts and Sciences. She is the first person to hold this position.

Her responsibilities include writing and developing publications, marketing material, Web site information and other communications initiatives to advance the college's mission and strategic goals and publicizing the college to both internal and external audiences.

She will be responsible for the annual report, information brochures, development materials, the college's Web site and for coordinating photography and graphic design work.

Varga came to CWRU from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where she had worked for the past four years. She was Goodyear's editor of internal communications with responsibilities for completing a daily four-page, internal newsletter. She also maintained Goodyear's intranet/internet sites as needed. Prior to becoming the editor of internal communications, she was a corporate communications representative at Goodyear from 1999-2001.

She holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Kent State University and her master's of business administration, with a concentration in marketing, from The University of Akron.
