transfer activity increases
CWRU reported increases in every aspect of its technology
transfer program in fiscal year 2003, including invention disclosures
received, licenses and options executed and income generated.
Projects
to receive $2 million in Provost's Opportunity grants
Several University projects that will help transform CWRU
into the world's most powerful learning environment have received
a total of $2 million from the Provost's Opportunity Fund for
2003-2004.
Obesity,
dental disease linked in young adults
One more reason to trade in
potato chips and television for a more active life: CWRU epidemiology
and dentistry researchers have found a link between obesity and
periodontal disease.

CWRU School of Medicine geneticists have been involved
in a detailed analysis of the reference sequence of chromosome

Colon
cancer gene discovered
Researchers at the CWRU School of Medicine and University Hospitals
of Cleveland report finding a new gene that is switched off early
in the development of colon cancer.
CAPI
receives grant from defense department
The Case Advanced Power Institute at CWRU has been awarded
a three-year, $1 million grant from the United States Army under
the Department of Defense Multidisciplinary University Research
Initiative.
Breast
cancer study looks at stem cell transplants, chemo
High-dose chemotherapy coupled with a stem cell transplant
do not improve the outcomes of postoperative patients with advanced
breast cancer, according to a study at the CWRU School of Medicine
and Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Flight
nurse camp to address emergency response training
The National Flight Nurse Academy, a partnership between CWRU's
Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and Cleveland's MetroHealth
Medical Center, will offer the nation's first-ever "summer
camp" for training flight nurses and emergency service personnel
in terrorism and emergency response.
First
campus community service day set for Sept. 17
President Edward M. Hundert is extending an invitation to staff,
faculty and students to participate September 17 in the University's
first Campus-wide Community Service Day.
