Construction team chosen to manage West Quad work
by Jeff
Bendix
CWRU has selected Gilbane Building Co., in association with Ralph Tyler Companies and Loncoleman Corporation, as construction manager for the multimillion dollar conversion of the former Mt. Sinai Medical Center into the University's new West Quad. The majority of the former Mt. Sinai will be demolished. Remaining will be the parking garage and two other buildings totaling 115,000 square feet, which will be renovated into administrative office space. Work is expected to start later this month. The GTL team and CWRU's Supplier Diversity Initiative Council are working closely to maximize the involvement of minority- and women-owned businesses as well as to maximize workforce participation. "Strong team leadership and participation is key to the success of this project," said Dave Krymowski, CWRU project manager. Past projects by the Gilbane-Ralph Tyler-Loncoleman team include the Gateway Sports Complex in Cleveland, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport's Concourse-C, Philadelphia International Airport and the current Cleveland Municipal School District construction and renovation program. CWRU purchased the Mt. Sinai complex in 2001 following the bankruptcy of its former owner, PHC Health Systems.
