President Edward M. Hundert and Provost and University Vice President
James W. Wagner each have been appointed by Gov. Bob Taft to a statewide
team charged with helping to raise the quality of higher education and
the economy for Ohio residents.
Hundert will serve on the newly created Ohio Commission on Higher Education
and the Economy, while Wagner will join the state's Third Frontier Advisory
Board.
The 33-member Commission on Higher Education and the Economy brings
together business, higher education and government leaders to evaluate
the funding, structure, governance and accessibility of Ohio's higher
education system.
According to Taft, the commission, which began meeting this month,
has been asked to recommend a strategy that will improve the quality
of the state's higher education system to most effectively support the
state's economy and enhance Ohioans' quality of life.
The 16-member Third Frontier Advisory Board will provide guidance to
the Third Frontier Commission on how to spend funds from the $1.6 billon
Third Frontier Project to create more high-paying jobs in Ohio.
The board also will advise on strategic planning and general management
and coordination of programs administered by the Third Frontier Commission,
including the Third Frontier Action Fund, Biomedical Research & Technology
Transfer Trust Fund and the Wright Capital Fund.
