Theodore L. "Ted" Schroeder, a CWRU alumnus and mathematician, computer
engineer and entrepreneur who has been working mostly in Silicon Valley
in California, was elected a new trustee of the University during the
board's May 19 meeting.
Schroeder, 45, who is originally from Dayton, Ohio, received a bachelor's
degree summa cum laude and master's degree, both in mathematics, from
CWRU in 1980. He also earned a master's degree in computer engineering
at the University in 1983. With his wife, Dana, Schroeder endowed two
professorships at CWRU in October 2000: the Theodore L. and Dana J.
Schroeder Professorship in Computer Engineering and Networking and-in
honor of their two childrenthe Timothy E. and Allison J. Schroeder
Professorship in Computer Engineering and Networking.
Currently, Schroeder is co-founder and partner, chief information officer
and a member of the board of trustees at FreeHand Systems Inc. Founded
in May 2001, FreeHand Systems offers products to aid musicians in turning
pages of music while playing their instruments.
In addition, Schroeder is co-founder of KAL Equity Capital Fund LLC,
founder of Gigabit Ethernet Networking Co. and owner of Schroeder and
Associates.
Schroeder has worked as vice president of product marketing for FirstIP
Networks, as a manager with Auspex Sytems, national sales manager at
Ultra Network Technologies, manager of network architecture at DCA/Cohesive
Network Corp. and manager of diagnostics at Admahl Corp.
He also was employed by Alteon WebSystems, which was acquired by Nortel
Network in 2000.
In other business, the CWRU Board of Trustees approved resolutions
to:
- expedite the north residential village project, combining phase
I and II to include 730 beds-compared to 690-along with the 1,200-car
parking garage, field house and playing fields at a new cost of $106.2
million
- implement revisions redefining membership in the CWRU faculty to
the faculty handbook
- establish a postgraduate audit program to allow postdoctoral scholars,
fellows, residents and other postgraduates involved in research or
clinical projects to attend University courses at reduced costs
- change the name of the department of theater arts to the department
of theater and dance
- discontinue the LL.M. in taxation degree offered by the CWRU School
of Law
