Board elects new member

Theodore L. "Ted" Schroeder, a CWRU alumnus and mathematician, computer engineer and entrepreneur who has been working mostly in Silicon Valley in California, was elected a new trustee of the University during the board's May 19 meeting.

Schroeder, 45, who is originally from Dayton, Ohio, received a bachelor's degree summa cum laude and master's degree, both in mathematics, from CWRU in 1980. He also earned a master's degree in computer engineering at the University in 1983. With his wife, Dana, Schroeder endowed two professorships at CWRU in October 2000: the Theodore L. and Dana J. Schroeder Professorship in Computer Engineering and Networking and-in honor of their two children—the Timothy E. and Allison J. Schroeder Professorship in Computer Engineering and Networking.

Currently, Schroeder is co-founder and partner, chief information officer and a member of the board of trustees at FreeHand Systems Inc. Founded in May 2001, FreeHand Systems offers products to aid musicians in turning pages of music while playing their instruments.

In addition, Schroeder is co-founder of KAL Equity Capital Fund LLC, founder of Gigabit Ethernet Networking Co. and owner of Schroeder and Associates.

Schroeder has worked as vice president of product marketing for FirstIP Networks, as a manager with Auspex Sytems, national sales manager at Ultra Network Technologies, manager of network architecture at DCA/Cohesive Network Corp. and manager of diagnostics at Admahl Corp.

He also was employed by Alteon WebSystems, which was acquired by Nortel Network in 2000.

In other business, the CWRU Board of Trustees approved resolutions to:

  • expedite the north residential village project, combining phase I and II to include 730 beds-compared to 690-along with the 1,200-car parking garage, field house and playing fields at a new cost of $106.2 million
