CWRU will be the site of "Indicators of Financial Health for
Nonprofit Organizations," a research seminar on from 8:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. April 4 in Thwing Center.
The seminar, which will bring together academic researchers,
nonprofit managers and business executives to discuss the practical
implications of current research on economic issues affecting
nonprofit organizations, is open to the public at a cost of $35
per person, which includes lunch.
Co-sponsors of the event are CWRU's Mandel Center for Nonprofit
Organizations, the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise and
the Center for Nonprofit Policy and Practice at Cleveland State
University.
Janet Greenlee, associate professor of accounting at the University
of Dayton, will serve as presenter for the seminar. Her research
interests include accounting and disclosure issues pertaining
to tax-exempt organizations. She is a consultant to nonprofit
and health care organizations on strategic planning and accounting
and internal control systems.
Serving as commentators for the event will be: Howard P. Tuckman,
dean of Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick and a
professor in the department of economics; William R. Plato, executive
vice president of United Way Services of Greater Cleveland; and
Gary S. Shamis, managing partner of Saltz, Shamis & Goldfarb Inc.
The Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations was established
in 1984. Its mission is to enhance the effectiveness of nonprofit
leaders and the organizations they serve through education, research
and community service. The Center's graduate program is ranked
in the top 10 nationally among more than 200 programs of its kind
by U.S. News and World Report magazine. The Mandel Center is a
partnership of CWRU's Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences,
Weatherhead School of Management, School of Law and College of
Arts and Sciences.
The National Center for Nonprofit Enterprise serves as a vehicle
for nonprofit leaders, managers, researchers, scholars, business
leaders and consultants to expand understanding of and accelerate
critical thinking about how nonprofits can use their economic
resources more effectively to address their social missions. The
Center for Nonprofit Policy and Practice works to enhance the
capacity of nonprofits to improve the quality of life for their
constituents through stewardship of the nonprofit sector in Cleveland
and the region.
