Training seminars to begin
CWRU, University Hospitals of Cleveland, The MetroHealth System
and the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairswith
support from a National Institutes of Health grantwill be
offering a Continuing Research Education Credit "expert level"
training series on human subject research.
The first seminar, "Ethical Issues of Involving Adolescents and
Children in Research," is from 2-5 p.m. April 14 in the E301 lecture
hall of the School of Medicine.

Panel to discuss just war
Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities will host a panel discussion
on the history and meaning of "just war" from 5-6:30 p.m. today
in Harkness Chapel.
Timothy K. Beal, from CWRU's department of religion, will preside.
Topics of discussion and CWRU faculty panelists include:

Workshops to cover procedures
The Controller's Office, in collaboration with others on campus,
will be offering workshops on administrative policies and procedures
in April and May.
The workshops, which cover topics ranging from payroll to accounting
to purchasing, are open to all faculty and staff. Space at the
workshops is limited, and spots are available on a first-come,
first-served basis.

Book club discussions slated
The Center for Women book Discussion Group will feature "Their
Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston May 7 and "Dust
Tracks On The Road" by Zora Neale Hurston June 4. All meetings
are from noon to 1 p.m. in Crawford 720. To learn more, contact

Tai chi class to be offered
Patricia Adler, a graduate student in the School of Nursing School
who recently presented a staff development seminar on tai chi,
now will offer an eight-week tai chi class.
The class will be noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays from May 1 through
June 19 in 13 Crawford Hall. The classes on May 15 and June 19
will be in 14 Crawford.
The cost for the class is $30 per person. For details or to register,

Court conducts open session
Members of the CWRU community as well as the general public will
have the opportunity to see a federal appeals court at work when
the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit conducts an
open session at the CWRU School of Law.
The session, which consists of oral arguments before the judges,
will be held today from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in room A59 of the law
school. It is sponsored by the law school's Center for Law, Technology
& The Arts, and is free and open to the public.
The Federal Circuit has nationwide jurisdiction to hear appeals
in specialized cases, including patent law and cases decided by
the Court of International Trade and the Court of Federal Claims.

Commencement ushers needed
Applications from CWRU employees interested in serving as ushers
for commencement are being accepted through April 11.
Ushers must attend mandatory meetings and participate at commencement
from 7:30 a.m. until noon May 18. Ushers will receive a half-day
of compensatory time (with pre-approval by an immediate supervisor)
and other gifts.

Event is on micro, nano technology
CWRU will host the Micro and Nano Technologies Symposium from
7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 17in the Thwing Center Ballroom.
The program begins with networking from 7-8:30 a.m. and ends
with a tour of the CWRU Center for Micro and Nano Processing at
2:30 p.m. Opening remarks are at 8:35 a.m. C.C. Liu, the Walter
R. Persons Professor of Sensor Technology and Control and Director
of the Electronics Design Center at CWRU, will be the featured
technology speaker. He will talk on "Nanotechnology and an Industrial
Perspective" at 9:15 a.m.

Weight group to start new
session
CWRU's Weight Watchers At-Work program for faculty, staff, students
and friends of the University starts its next session from 11:30
a.m. to 12:15 p.m. May 1 in the Spartan Room of Thwing Center.
The 14-week session is available for the price of 12 weeks. The
cost is $138, which can be paid by cash, check or charge. The
payment can be divided into three payments of $46 when paying
by check.

Manor House to close for
renovations
The Manor House at Squire Valleevue Farm will be undergoing lawn
renovations. In order to complete the work required, the house
must be closed to meetings and events for the months of July,
August and September 2003.
The construction involved will include waterproofing and replacing
front lawn drainage.
If the work is completed prior to the projected date, the house
