Two nationally known journalistsincluding CWRU alumna Susie
Gharibwill give lectures at CWRU next week.
Gharib, the New York-based co-anchor of "Nightly Business Report,"
will return to Case Western Reserve University to give the free
lecture, "War and the Economy," at 12:30 p.m. March 28 in 14 Crawford
Hall.
New York Times investigative reporter Kurt Eichenwald
will give the free talk, "Corporate Corruption and the Collapse
of an American Fantasy" at noon Monday, March 24, in 206 Clark
Hall at Case Western Reserve University.
Eichenwald's visit to CWRU is part of the Susie Gharib Distinguished
Lectureship in Journalism series that was established by a gift
from Gharib and her husband Fred Nazem.
Gharib is a 1972 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of CWRU. Visits to campus
by distinguished lecturers under this program form the cornerstone
of an advanced journalism class in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Gharib, who graduated magna cum laude in 1972 from Flora Stone
Mather College, has gained a reputation for her incisive interviews
with the "Who's Who" of corporate America and the world. Since
1998, she has reported on business, Wall Street and international
market trends and the economy for PBS's "Nightly Business Report."
She has earned the Gracie Allen Award for Best Anchor and is listed
in Who's Who in America.
Prior to anchoring "Nightly Business Report," Gharib was a reporter
for CNBC's "Today's Business" and was anchor for "Market Watch."
She has worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Newsweek,
Associated Press, Fortune Magazine, Financial News Network
and the "Eyewitness News" at ABC's New York station.
Gharib also holds a master's degree in international affairs
degree from Columbia University.
For more than a decade, Eichenwald has written about white-collar
crime and corporate corruption, including stories on Archer Daniels
Midland and Enron.
His work has earned two prestigious George Polk Awards for excellence
in journalism, and he was a finalist for the 2000 Pulitzer Prize.
Eichenwald also is the author of two books, Serpent on the
Rock and The Informant: A True Story. In addition to
the Susie Gharib Distinguished Lectureship in Journalism, sponsors
for Gharib's visit are CWRU's Public Affairs Forum and the Center
for Policy Studies.
