Teammates volunteer to wrestle real world issues

CWRU, host of the 2003 University Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships, finished 1-2-3 in the 1,650 freestyle final at the Veale Natatorium. Alicia Kendig won (17:15.27), senior Lisa Gieseker placed second (17:22.24) and senior Liz Badziong finished third (17:27.99). All three times were NCAA qualifiers and broke former teammate Kelly Alexander's pool record of 17:38.40 set in 1998. Also during the competition, junior Michael Monaghan (far right) placed second in the 200 individual medley (1:55.09, NCAA Provisional) and was a member of the 800 freestyle relay team that placed fourth (6:58.48, NCAA Provisional).
