Roos joins treasurer's office
by Jeff Bendix

Arthur Roos has been appointed associate treasurer for financing, investments and risk management at CWRU.

Roos joins CWRU following 25 years at Niagara Mohawk Holdings in Syracuse, most recently as vice president and treasurer.

His main areas of responsibility in his new position are financing issues, insurance management, oversight and policy for outside trusts and management of fixed income-related assets.

Roos, who holds a master's degree in business administration from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College, is one of two associate treasurer positions created under a reorganization of the Office of the Treasurer, according to William M. Rose, CWRU treasurer and chief investment officer.

Sally Staley, hired last year as director of alternative investments, has been promoted to associate treasurer. Her responsibilities have been broadened to include oversight of public equity managers for the University's endowment. Assisting her is Jason Hart, an investment analyst who joined CWRU in October 2002.

Rose said the treasurer's office has been assigned to oversee insurance and risk management of the University's physical assets and business risks. As a result Laura Corrigan, insurance manager; and Nancy Wheelock, insurance assistant, have been reassigned from the University's Facilities Management and Operations department to the treasurer's office.

"In order to respond to our new responsibilities, as well as to the increasing complexity and volatility of the financial and insurance markets, we have used an existing vacancy to realign our staff duties and expand our depth of experience," Rose said.
