Staff
council to spend year bringing employees empowerment by involvement
Case Western Reserve University's Staff Advisory Council (SAC) opened its first meeting of the new academic year adopting a motto. Based on the university's vision statement and values, the council, which welcomed 25 newly elected members, unanimously voted to take on "Empowerment by Involvement" as its mission. The council also discussed proposed amendments to its constitution, primarily to streamline its election process to allow staff to select representatives as a community, across school boundaries, while ensuring each management center is still represented. Per the council's constitution, SAC members will vote on the changes through a mail ballot. Among other housekeeping items, SAC, under the leadership of this year's chair, Joanne Dicarlo, a research assistant in dermatology at the School of Medicine, also adopted a schedule of meetings for the coming year. The full council will meet on the second Thursday of every other month from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Toepfer Room of Adelbert Hall. The council's next meeting is December 11. All staff members are welcome to attend SAC meetings. Employees also are invited to serve on council standing committees even if they are not elected representatives. The committees include communications, community service, elections, fringe benefits, staff policy, staff recognition and staff development and training.
