A committee has been appointed to search for a successor to the
University's dean of undergraduate admission, a position that
is being broadened to include other issues of student enrollment.
In addition to admission, the new dean of enrollment is expected
to be responsible for student retention and satisfaction, as well
as be more involved in setting financial aid policy and working
with undergraduate education reform.
Steven Haynesworth, associate dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences and associate professor of biology, will serve as chair
of the search committee.
Other members include Jinming Gao, engineering; Lynn Lotas, nursing;
Gary Previts, management; Julie Amon, assistant dean for freshmen;
G. Dean Patterson, student affairs; Laura Tanski, budget office;
and Andrew Brinkman and Breanne Martin, undergraduate students.
The committee will enlist the help of an external search firm
in the process.
The new dean of enrollment will succeed William Conley, former
dean of undergraduate admission, who left the University this
summer to become dean of academic enrollment at Johns Hopkins
University.
