The Institute for the Integration of Management and Engineering
at Case Western Reserve University has announced that Patrick
E. Crago has been named the bio-director for the new biomedical
entrepreneurship concentration in the master of engineering and
management program.
Crago, who also serves as chair of the biomedical engineering
department at the Case School of Engineering and is the Allen
H. and Constance T. Ford Professor of Biomedical Engineering,
is a key leader in the development of the biomedical entrepreneurship
track and co-authored a successful grant proposal of $599,834
from the Partnerships for Innovation Program (PFI) to support
the subsequent implementation. PFI is an arm of the National Science
Foundation. CWRU will use the grant to help boost Northeast Ohio
to the forefront of biotechnology innovation and entrepreneurial
activity.
"We are thrilled that Pat Crago has accepted the position," said
Dale Flowers, co-director of TIIME and an associate professor
of operations at the Weatherhead School of Management. "Partnering
with the leader of Case's nationally ranked biomedical engineering
department is a major benefit for our students in the master of
engineering and management program."
Crago will provide leadership and direction for all bio-related
activities of the institute, including curriculum review and development,
support for the academic program implementation, student recruiting
and admissions for the new biomedical entrepreneurship track,
the biotechnology business launch competition and internship placement.
Activities for high school-age summer interns are sponsored by
the NSF grant.
