The CWRU School of Law has set a new record for annual fund donations
by topping the $1 million mark and raising $1,000,317 in its 2001-02
annual fund drive.
It is the first time the annual fund has exceeded $1 million
and represents an 11 percent increase over last year's drive.
The law school's annual fund has grown 86 percent in the past
five years.
"We are very grateful for the outstanding support demonstrated
by our alumni and other friends of the law school," said Gerald
Korngold, dean and McCurdy Professor of Law. "It represents a
vote of confidence for the direction the school is taking. Their
contributions will make it possible for us to further strengthen
the quality of legal education offered at the school."
The Law Firm Giving Challenge is an important component of the
law school's annual fund campaign.
Of the firms and their CWRU law school alumni participating in
the challenge, the firm of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff
raised the highest dollar amount, and Porter, Wright, Morris &
Arthur secured the highest participation percentage among their
CWRU alumni.
Alums James Hagy, '78, partner at Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue
in Chicago, and James Koehler, '73, partner at the Cleveland law
firm of Gallagher, Sharp, Fulton & Norman, co-chaired the annual
fund campaign.
"I have benefited tremendously from my experience at the law
school," Koehler said. "The annual fund represents an opportunity
for all CWRU law graduates to 'give back' and participate in the
success of the school."
Annual fund donations are used for student scholarships, faculty
support, library services, academic experiences beyond the classroom
such as trial advocacy and moot court and to bring visiting scholars
and distinguished professionals to the School.
Korngold said the success of the 2001-02 annual fund will jumpstart
a multi-year fundraising campaign for the school, scheduled to
kick off in the fall.
