The University's information services division has been restructured
to better focus on customer service and is now known as Information
Technology Services (ITS).
The operational units within ITS include infrastructure services,
administrative applications, instructional technology and academic
computing, the University archives and customer service and support.
"The primary focus of the new organization is customer service
and satisfaction," said Lev Gonick, vice president and chief information
officer. "We have realigned our talent to better serve our customers.
"For example, last week our help desk and technicians were in
the residence halls ready and willing to help students get connected
to the new network," Gonick continued. "In addition, we created
a new area-instructional technology and academic computing whose
focus is academic technology-to be more supportive of faculty
computing needs. The University will be seeing several highly
visible customer service initiatives over the next academic year."
Infrastructure services, led by Barron Hulver, is responsible
for middleware, network engineering and security, operations,
enterprise storage and consolidated server engineering. Colleen
Nagy heads administrative applications, which supports core administrative
systems as well as core community tools, including production
support for the forthcoming new IMAP e-mail system and CWRU's
first ever University-wide calendaring system. Sharon Scinicariello
directs the new instructional technology and academic computing
area, while John Molnar manages the customer service and support
organization. Dennis Harrison continues to direct University archives.
In addition to the five operational areas, several new initiatives
are under way. A Project Management Office will be created and
led by Bruce Richard. Jeff Gumpf, University technical architect,
will guide the way to the new network infrastructure, while Ron
Ryan heads the Campus Enterprise Portal project. Bob Jefferis
is responsible for UWIN2, the University-wide Integrated Information
System, and Dell Klingensmith leads the way for Strategic Technology
Partnerships and Affiliates. Jim Nauer will implement Storage
Area Network, and Harry Berger will coordinate Mainframe Transition.
"Our goal for the new organization is to work very closely with
the Faculty Senate Committee on Information Resources, the ITS
Planning and Advisory Committee and the Council of Technology
Officers to help achieve the goals of the University" Gonick said.
