President Edward M. Hundert and other top CWRU administrators
will attend an upcoming neighborhood forum to answer questions
about the University's progress in developing the West Quad, formerly
the site of Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
The event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. today in the Abe M.
Luntz auditorium in The Temple-Tifereth Israel, 1855 Ansel Road.
Hosting will be Sabra Pierce Scott, councilwoman for Cleveland
Ward 8. The forum also will be Hundert's introduction to neighborhood
residents.
Scott and Hundert will offer opening remarks. Rhonda Gross, senior
vice president for finance and administration; Ken Basch, vice
president for campus planning and operations; and Jackie Chisholm,
director of community services and community relations, will be
present to answer questions on possible uses for West Quad.
The University acquired the 14-acre Mt. Sinai campus in March
2001 following the bankruptcy of its former owner. Earlier this
year the University and several of its consultants completed a
study of the property, which concluded that the main hospital
building, the data center and nurses residence can be economically
adapted to other uses, while the garage can provide parking for
employees and visitors. The other buildings will be razed, and
the space they occupied will be landscaped and maintained for
future strategic initiatives.
Among the options the University is considering are programs
emphasizing community development and health care, entrepreneurship
and high-tech business development. In addition, as part of the
University's master plan, some existing CWRU administrative support
functions will be moved to West Quad, possibly as early as fall
2003.
