The Schubert Center for Child Development with the CWRU Consortium
for Children Families and Community will present an interdisciplinary
colloquia that focuses on campus research about children.
Monthly speakers will discuss their projects during "CWRU Conversations
on Children in Research and Policy." Faculty, staff and students
are invited to the free talks that take place 11:45 a.m. to 1
p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month in the Baker-Nord Center
in 206 Clark Hall.
The inaugural speaker will be Lynn Singer, deputy provost and
University vice president, on September 3. She will speak about
"Longitudinal Studies of Infants' Risks."
Future speakers include:
- October 1: Sandra Russ, professor of psychology,
on "Pretend Play as a Resource for Children"
- November 5: William J. Sabol, associate director
for community analysis in the Center on Urban Poverty and Social
Change at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, on "Examining
the Impacts of Incarceration on Communities and Families"
- December 3: Eric Kodish, director of Rainbow
Center for Pediatric Ethics, on "Ethics and Research on Children
in the Community: Finding the Right Balance
- February 4, 2003: Mark Singer, MSASS professor
of social work, on "The Mental Health and Behavioral Consequences
of Children's Exposure to Violence."
- March 4, 2003: Joseph Fagan, the Leffingwell
Professor in the department of psychology, "A New Look at Intelligence"
- April 1, 2003: Karen Olness, professor of
pediatrics and family medicine at the CWRU School of Medicine,
"The Psychological Effects of Disasters on Children"
