Faculty, staff and students won't want to leave home without
their CWRU IDs.
The cards already serve as keys to campus buildings and access
for several services. Of course, there are some things money can't
buy. But now for-almost-everything else, there's CWRUcard.
CWRU is one of the first 18 university campuses nationwide to
add the SA, or Student Advantage, program to its picture ID cards.
The cards, used mostly by residential students for meal plans
and laundry services in the past, now will come in handy for all
students, commuters included, faculty and staff as a way to pay
for many more products and services wherever their travels take
the-on and around campus.
The program expands CWRUcard off-campus options to a total of
14 different merchants, including Giant Eagle at Cedar Hill, International
Auto Service in Cleveland Heights and Presti's Bakery in Little
Italy, that now accept the CWRUcard as payment for products and
services. Alcohol cannot be purchased with ID dollars.
Businesses that honor CWRUcard will display a "CWRU card accepted
here" sign right alongside Visa, Mastercard and other logos. Most
of the merchants even run weekly specials for CWRUcard customers.
"We're extremely excited to provide more convenient and flexible
dining options to our students and faculty and staff by taking
our card program off-campus," said Richard Jamieson, director
of campus services at CWRU. "Student Advantage is the type of
program our students and employees were looking for, and we're
glad we could deliver it to them."
Vending also is being added to the list of campus food, bookstore,
copying, library and laundry services that accept the CWRU ID.
Machines with card readers are now in Kusch, Glaser, Michelson
and Clark Tower residence halls and soon will be in Sears, the
Biomedical Research Building, the School of Law and Thwing Center.
And the University continues to discover the possibilities. Merchants
are continually joining the list of CWRUcard companies, and one
day the cards could be used for additional services, even as an
RTA pass. It's also becoming even easier for studentsand
their parentsto add CWRUcash to ID cards. Deposits can be
made using credit cards on the Access Services Web site at http://cwrucard.cwru.edu,
while a new site, http://www.cwrucard.com,
with even more information and options is expected to be up and
running in the next month or so.
In addition, cash can be tacked on to a card in person at new
Value Transfer Stations in Thwing next to the ATM and in Wade
Commons across the hall from the ATM.
Faculty and staff who have activated their accounts or would
like to join the program don't need to add CWRUcash. Their IDs
work as debit cards, called CWRUcharge, and money spent is deducted
from their next paycheck. Employees can equip their picture IDs
with the CWRUcharge option by signing up at Access Services.
And CWRUcard support services are everywhere you want to be.
All cardholders can check their balances and run statements online
or at a Value Transfer Station. Guest cards can be purchased at
the stations, and faculty, staff and students can suspend the
use of lost or stolen IDs from the Web site.
