Sally J. Staley has been named director
of alternative investments in the Office of the Treasurer at CWRU.
In that position she oversees the University endowment's assets
in private equity, hedge funds and real estate.
The University's endowment as of June 1
totaled about $1.4 billion, the 26th largest in the country. Approximately
$445 million, or 31 percent, of the endowment is held in investments
and commitments other than equities and fixed-income securities.
"In recent years Case Western Reserve has
been steadily broadening the mix of investment vehicles in its
endowment in order to offset volatility in the equities markets,"
said William Rose, CWRU treasurer. "As that proportion of alternative
investments has increased, we need someone to oversee that part
of our endowment on a full-time basis."
Before coming to CWRU, Staley had been a
senior consultant in the investment management and capital markets
practice in the Cleveland office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC.
Earlier she was proprietor of Staley Group International, an investment
consulting and technology marketing firm.
From 1989-1995 Staley served as an investment
director on the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, where she
helped manage the state's $35 billion public pension fund. Prior
to that she held positions with Merrill Lynch Capital Markets,
Prudential Bache Securities Inc. and Salomon Brothers Inc. in
New York.
Staley holds a master's degree in international
affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at
Columbia University and a B.A. from the College of Wooster in
Wooster, Ohio.
