The University's initiative to establish
a centralized system of campus-wide transactions, records and
data is moving into the planning phase.
Interim President James Wagner and Senior
Vice President of Finance and Administration Rhonda Gross have
authorized the planning committee for the University-wide Integrated
Information System (UWIN2) to begin building a business case and
start the collaborative process that will result in software selection.
The UWIN2 initiative, which was previously
called the CWRU Integrated Applications Opportunity or CIAO, will
implement over the next two years an Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) system. The new administrative applications suite will combine
University-wide information-including human resource, financial,
student and alumni records-into a single, integrated and unified
database with a Web interface.
As part of the process, the UWIN2 planning
committee, to be chaired by Chris Ash, associate dean of finance
and administration for engineering, will conduct a two-day retreat
for members of focus groups that participated in an earlier readiness
assessment study conducted by Cedar Enterprise Solutions Inc.
Invitations to the retreat, which will provide an overview of
potential vendor projects, are expected to go out in mid July.
"We have a large, decentralized campus,
and this is a great opportunity for faculty, staff and students
to provide their input on a system that will enhance the University's
academic programs, services and outreach over the next 10 to 15
years," said Bob Jefferis, project director of the initiative.
Monthly brown bag information sessions
to keep the campus community informed on the status and progress
of the project are conducted the second Thursday of each month.
The next forum is from noon to 1 p.m. July 11 in 13 Crawford Hall.
Faculty, staff and students also can learn about the initiative
and provide input through the UWIN2 Web site at http://www.cwru.edu/is/uwin2.
