Dale A. Nance, one of the nation's foremost
experts on the law of evidence, has been named professor of law
at the CWRU School of Law effective July 1.
A faculty member of the Chicago-Kent College
of Law since 1989, Nance primarily teaches and writes in the fields
of evidence, jurisprudence and legal theory. He is participating
as one of the revisers for the next edition of Wigmore on Evidence,
the leading Anglo-American treatise in the field.
Nance is a frequent speaker on evidence
throughout the country and is the author of numerous law review
articles and the textbook Law and Justice: Cases and Readings
on the American Legal System (1994).
"As a nationally recognized evidence scholar,
Dale Nance brings a wealth of accomplishments and experience to
our school," said Gerald Korngold, dean and McCurdy Professor
of Law. "His appointment is an exciting and important addition
to our faculty in our scholarship and teaching missions."
Nance serves on academic advisory boards
for The Heartland Institute and The Institute for Humane Studies
and is a member of the American Society for Political and Legal
Philosophy. He also has served on the executive committees of
the Evidence and Jurisprudence Sections of the Association of
American Law Schools as well as the section on Law and Interpretation.
In 1992, Chicago-Kent College of Law named him a Norman and Edna
Freehling Scholar.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Rice
University and a law degree from Stanford Law School. After three
years in private practice in California, he earned a master's
degree in Jurisprudence and Social Policy at the University of
California-Berkeley and joined the law faculty at Northern Illinois
University.
Prior to joining the Chicago-Kent faculty,
he taught at the University of Colorado and the University of
San Diego and was a visiting professor at Cornell Law School in
1997.
