Hardesty served as clinical ophthalmology professor

A retired ophthalmologist and educator at CWRU, Hiram "Pop" Hardesty died in May in West Farmington. He was 88.

Hardesty, an associate clinical professor at the University until he retired in 1996, was president of the Allen Memorial Medical Library and the Cleveland Ophthalmology Club.

He served on the board of the Cleveland School for the Blind; the American Orthoptic Council; and the Association for Research in Strabismus, an eye defect that causes squinting.

After attending Hiram College and Miami University, Hardesty graduated from Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1940. He did postgraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and served a residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
