John R. Haaga, an international expert
in tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and interventional radiology,
has been reappointed as the Theodore J. Castele University Professor
of Radiology.
Haaga joined CWRU as an assistant professor
of radiology in 1979 after serving as a staff radiologist at the
Cleveland Clinic Foundation for three years. In 1981 he was promoted
to professor, and in 1993 he was named chair of the radiology
department.
His contributions to medicine include the
first computed tomography-guided biopsy, abscess drainage, nerve
blocks, alcohol ablation and longitudinal computed tomography
scan.
Haaga has published 150 articles, 43 book
chapters and nine books and has been granted seven patents.
He has served as president of the Society
of Computed Body Tomography and the Cleveland Radiologic Society.
