Over 110 were in attendance for the Department of Chemistry's
annual Academic Awards Program conducted recently in the Frank
Hovorka Atrium.
The program was presided over by the Department's Chair, Lawrence
M. Sayre, and awards were presented to both undergraduate and
graduate students by Professors Fred L. Urbach and Robert C. Dunbar.
The awards program was instituted to give recognition to undergraduate
and graduate students who have excelled in their studies and teaching
performance, and to recognize an outstanding alumnus or alumna
in the field of chemistry.
This year the Outstanding Alumnus Award was presented to Arnold
Rheingold, who received his B.A. and M.S. degrees from Western
Reserve University in 1962 and 1963. He is currently a professor
of chemistry at the University of Delaware and has published extensively
in X-ray Crystallography.
