NICKERSON NAILS—The University Athletic Association handed down its postseason awards this past weekend and CWRU senior forward JeNine Nickerson (Berea, OH) topped their list. Nickerson was named the Association's Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Nickerson, a local Berea High School grad, led the UAA in rebounding this past season with 264 boards in 25 regular season contests (10.6 rpg.). She finished first on the team and in the top 15 in the league in scoring with 299 points (12.0 ppg.). Nickerson, who was also a first team All-UAA selection, also finished fifth in the Association in blocked shots with 24. She recorded 13 double-doubles. The team's record-breaking season ended this past Saturday when they lost to St. Lawrence University 73-67 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in New York. CWRU defeated Mount Saint Mary College last Wednesday 59-56 in the school's first ever NCAA tournament basketball game. The Spartans finished the year 20-7 overall and 10-4 for second place in the UAA. They are the winningest team in CWRU history. Before this year, the women had two 15-win seasons and the men had two 17.

MORE WOMEN HONORED—CWRU sophomore guard Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) was also a first team All-UAA selection. Zeuch finished second on the team in scoring with 299 points in 25 games (12.0 ppg.). She hit 108 of 259 shots from the field (41.7%), including 42 of 122 from behind the arc (34.4%). Spartan senior guard Tracy Roessner (Brunswick, OH) was named to the All-Association second team and sophomore guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH) was an honorable mention selection. Roessner finishes her career at CWRU third on the all-time assists leaders, list with 278. She had a team high 94 this past season in 27 games.

WRESTLERS POST FOUR ALL-AMERICANS—Sophomore 149-pounder Zak Kallai (Wadsworth, OH), senior 165-pounder Chris Nader (Lakewood, OH), sophomore 197-pounder Josh Schmidt (St. Mary's, PA) and junior Jon Coatoam (Perry, OH) all earned All-American honors this past weekend at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships held at the University of Scranton and Kings College. For Kallai and Nader, it was their second consecutive All-American honors as Kallai finished fifth overall and Nader eighth. Coatman received his second consecutive Academic All-American honors and Schmidt his first. To be named an Academic All-American you have to have at least a 3.2 GPA, a .667 record or better and finish in the top four of your region. The top eight finishers at the NCAA Championships earn All-American honors.

UAA HONORS TAKE THREE—Spartan junior guard John Link (Lakewood, OH), a Padua High School grad, represented the CWRU men on the All-UAA list. Link was named to the second team for the third consecutive season. He led the team and finished fifth in the Association in scoring with 376 points in 24 regular season games (15.7). Link also finished tied for first in the UAA in free throw percentage at 81.3% (61-75). He moved into the tenth position on the schools all-time scoring list with 1,118 career points.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS—The CWRU indoor track and field teams brought home three individual champions this past weekend from the 2002 UAA Championships held at Brandeis University in Boston. Sophomore Dan Haylett (Mantua, OH) won the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.36 meters, senior Kurt Whitling (Bolivar, OH) won the men's shot put with a throw of 15.22 meters and freshman Cassi Armstrong (Shaker Heights, OH) won the women's shot put with a throw of 11.65 meters.
