Tax treaty forms due Jan.
10
All international scholars and faculty who receive tax treaty
benefits must complete IRS form 8233 for 2003 before January 10.
Forms are available at the Office of Foreign Faculty and Scholars,
212 Sears Library.
Smallpox conference slated
A conference, "Smallpox: Planning for Exposure; Assessment of
Preparedness," sponsored by CWRU's Center for Science, Health
and Society and designed for health services personnel and safety
forces, will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. December 17
at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
The course fee is $15. The CWRU School of Medicine will offer
continuing medical education credit for physicians.

Lego robots to compete Dec.
14
Students of CWRU's autonomous robotics course have designed and
built teams of Lego robots that will compete in a hockey-like
rink to steal eggs from their rivals, block opponents' nests and
stop them from gathering from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. December 14
at the Great Lakes Science Center.
The event is open to the public. There is an additional charge
for admission to the Science Center's exhibits and/or OMNIMAX
theater.

Phone service charges altered
Following a review of the University's indirect cost rate, CWRU
departments will now be charged only direct costs for all telephone
services. The rate structure change was effective July 1. For
details, contact Bob Tuhacek at rht.
Weight group to start session
The next session of CWRU's Weight Watchers At Work program begins
from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. January 9.
Participants will receive 14 sessions for the price of 12. The
cost is $138 payable by cash, check or charge. When paying by
check, members can make three $46 payments.

UCITE fellowships available
Applications for UCITE Learning Fellowships are due December
15.
The fellowships, which are one semester starting spring 2003,
are for CWRU faculty members who want to explore in more depth
concepts of how people learn and how those concepts can be applied
in the classroom.
Each faculty member will receive a stipend of $4,000 upon completing
the program. Approximately 20 fellowships will be awarded each
semester.
Faculty should send a CV and a brief letter indicating why they
are interested in the fellowship. For more information, e-mail

SPUR is accepting applications
CWRU's Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) is accepting
applications through February 3.
The 10-week program from May 27 to August 1 is designed to acquaint
students with all aspects of scientific research, from formulation
of a question to production of a final report. Each participant
will be assigned to a faculty member whose research is of interest.
A stipend of $2,800 is available. Seniors that are graduating
in May or June of 2003 are not eligible for this program.

Brain exhibit features faculty
The traveling exhibit "BRAIN: The World Inside Your Head" at
the Great Lakes Science Center-featuring CWRU faculty members
discussing various topics related to the human brain-continues
through January 5.
CWRU faculty presenting include Brian M. Maddux, December 14;
Erwin Montgomery, December 21; and Lyn S. Turkstra, January 4.

Tomlinson gallery offers gifts
Art in the Circle's 16th annual Holiday Potpourri continues through
December 13.
The arts and crafts consignment shop in the basement of Tomlinson
Hall is featuring holiday gift items, all crafted by members of
the CWRU community. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Orchestra seeks volunteers
The Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus are looking for volunteers
to help sell CD recordings of the group's holiday music before
and after performances in its annual Holiday Concert Series at
Severance Hall.
All volunteers will receive a free CD and be able to attend the
concert.
The concert schedule, with volunteer hours needed, are 7-10 p.m.
December 13, 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. December 14, 2-5 p.m. and
6-9 p.m. December 15, 7-10 p.m. December 19, 7-10 p.m. December
20, 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. December 21 and 2-5 p.m. December 22.
