The creation of two new administrative offices-an Office of Community
and Government Relations and an Office of University and Alumni
Relations-are the latest changes in the University's new organizational
structure.
Effective immediately, the Office of Community and Government
Relations will be a freestanding office, with Richard Baznik serving
as vice president for community and government relations.
The new Office of University and Alumni Relations-which will
include brand development and marketing, philanthropic development,
alumni relations, University communications (all publications
and periodicals including CWRU Magazine and Campus News),
Web development and media relations-will be led by Derek Bellin.
Bellin recently joined CWRU as vice president for development
and alumni affairs and now will assume additional responsibility
as vice president for University and alumni relations and chief
development officer.
The organizational changes were approved last week by the Board
of Trustees executive committee.
The Office of Community and Government Relations will focus on
outreach and engagement with community and government leaders,
a function that is not unusual for a research and teaching institution,
according to President Edward M. Hundert.
The incumbent staff in community and government relations, Jacklyn
Chisholm and Adrienne Dziak, respectively, will continue to report
to Baznik in the new configuration.
Jean Gubbins' role as program manager for institutional data
and search support will be reassigned to the Office of the President
and the Provost as part of a "much-needed effort to provide better
institutional research support for all sectors of the University,"
according to Hundert.
The Office of University and Alumni Relations will help create
a consistent brand identity for and more deliberate marketing
of CWRU as well as enhanced media relations activities.
In addition, the University and alumni relations office will
be forming a Marketing Advisory Committee, which CWRU trustee
A. Malachi "Mal" Mixon will chair.
Connecting the communications capacity of the University with
the fund-raising apparatus in this new office and creating a brand
identity will not only help build CWRU's undergraduate program
but also philanthropic development, according to Hundert.
All current reporting relationships in development and alumni
affairs remain unchanged. In addition, Tom Shrout's university
communications, including media relations, publications and marketing;
Ken Kesegich's periodicals department; and Tom Fulton's web development
office will join the University and alumni relations team reporting
to Bellin.
