Mather holiday sale
to begin
Finely crafted and reasonably priced gifts will be on sale by
artists from 16 studios at Mather Gallery's annual holiday sale.
The event begins from 4-7 p.m. November 15 with a reception for
the artists and continues noon to 5 p.m. weekdays through December
20, with Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gautam to give Stein
lecture
Kul C. Gautam, deputy executive director of the United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF) and an assistant secretary general of
the U.N., will speak on "The Well Being of Children as a Global
Public Good" at 5 p.m. November 18 in the George S. Dively Building.
Gautam's talk will be the fifth annual Herman D. Stein Lectureship
in International Social Welfare.
Jill Korbin, professor of anthropology, associate dean of CWRU's
College of Arts and Sciences and co-director of the Schubert Center
for Child Development and director of the Childhood Studies Program,
will respond to Gautam's remarks.

Forum to explore school
safety
CWRU's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing will help sponsor
a conference on "Threats to the Well-Being of Children in the
School and Community Environment," which will take place from
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. November 15 at the Visiting Nurse Association
of Cleveland.
The keynote speaker will be Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, founder
and chair of the Keep Your Children/Yourself Safe and Secure Campaign
(KySS) and associate dean and director of the Center for Research
& Evidence-based Practice and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program
at the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

MLK essays due Nov. 27
Entries for the seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest
are due by 5 p.m. November 27. Essays of up to 1,000 words should
illuminate some aspect of King's life in terms that have meaning
and influence today.
