CWRU to seed tech transfer, companies

CWRU has launched Case Technology Ventures, a new, pre-seed stage funding source to help commercialize new technologies developed at the University through the creation of new companies in Northeast Ohio.

Engineers demystify fatigue in polysilicon

Researchers at CWRU report that miniature micron-sized polysilicon laboratory specimens subjected to cyclic tension/compression loading undergo fatigue, and could ultimately fail, as a result of damage produced by the compressive cycles rather than from moisture-assisted stress corrosion cracking.

Medical school to train clergy in clinical ethics

The department of bioethics at the CWRU School of Medicine has initiated the Clinical Ethics and Clergy Project to aid patients and their families who wish to understand and make difficult medical decisions within the context of their religious beliefs and traditions.

Satcher honored for his work in mental health

CWRU alumnus David Satcher is this year's recipient of the Institute of Medicine's Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health.

Employees to round up benefits with fair, Benelect

Faculty and staff will update their medical insurance and other benefits packages during open enrollment for Benelect 2003 November 18 through December 2, with the Benefits Fair—called Benefits Roundup this year—from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. November 19 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. November 20 in the Excelsior Ballroom of Thwing Center.

SAC basket raffle returns

Offices around campus have donated 33 baskets full of gifts for the Staff Advisory Council to raffle during the CWRU Benefits Fair November 19 and 20. Tickets are $1. Proceeds from the second annual SAC basket raffle will support activities at Joseph Landis School of Tomorrow and Mary Bethune Elementary School.

As part of his ongoing effort to get to know Cleveland, as well as University Circle, and their many cultural, business and educational institutions, President Edward M. Hundert receives a personally guided tour of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

In Memoriam:
Morrison had been top prof in chemical engineering

Philip W. Morrison Jr., associate professor of chemical engineering at CWRU, died November 4 after a brief illness. He was 42.

In Memoriam:
Todd worked his way up to immunology research teams

Earl W. Todd, 73, who started as a laboratory glassware washer at Western Reserve University and worked his way up to a member of the University's immunology research teams, died October 24 after he was involved in a car accident on River Road in Hunting Valley.
