Nonprofit center awards Schneider fellowship
by Jeff Bendix

Michael C. Mayse, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland, has been named the 2002 winner of the Thomas B. Schneider Memorial Fellowship in Nonprofit Management.

The fellowship provides full tuition for part-time study toward the master of nonprofit organizations (MNO) degree at Case Western Reserve University's Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations.

Mayse joins Danny Williams, former general counsel and major metro executive of the Ohio Division of the American Cancer Society, who received the 2001 fellowship.

The Schneider Memorial Fellowship was established to honor the late Thomas B. Schneider, a prominent Cleveland attorney and adviser to many local foundations. Schneider was an executive at Ameritrust who played a major role in the community, largely through his work with United Way. As a lasting legacy, his family and friends established a scholarship in his name, which would continue his work in the community.

To be considered for the fellowship, an individual must be a senior manager of a United Way Services-affiliated agency; must have qualified for admission to the MNO program at CWRU; and must provide evidence of experience, commitment and potential for continued leadership in nonprofit management. Winners are selected by representatives from the Mandel Center, United Way Services and the Schneider family.
