Homecoming to get CWRU community in stride with Spartan pride
by Paula J. Baughn

All CWRU students, faculty, staff and alums are invited to "Get in Stride with Spartan Pride" during this year's homecoming weekend October 11-13.

Homecoming 2002 starts with a pep rally at 7 p.m. October 11 in Turning Point Park, where the University's student homecoming court will be announced. An hour later, a University Program Board-Peter B. Lewis kickoff concert by Ray's Music Exchange, a six-piece ensemble from Cincinnati dedicated to the creation of eclectic and innovative music, will celebrate the formal dedication of the new Weatherhead School of Management building.

Also that night, the Undergraduate Alumni Association will host two special reunions, one for former members of University football teams and one for marching bands.

Festivities continue at 11 a.m. on October 12 with a parade through the North Campus. The floats, students with signs and decorated cars competing for cash prizes will start their procession at Ford and Euclid avenues and end at 115th Street near Finnigan Field.

The all-campus homecoming tailgate picnic follows the parade at 11:30 a.m., and the homecoming football game—CWRU vs. the Maryville Fighting Scots—begins at 1 p.m.

The halftime show of the match-up will feature performances by the CWRU Marching Band and marching band alums. Members of the alumni band and football teams will be announced along with the king and queen of the homecoming court.

At 7:30 p.m. that night, student Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds will present a concert, "Sounds of Sousa," at Severance Hall. Tickets are $30 for box seats, $15 for general admission and $5 for students with a CWRU ID.

The traditional homecoming dance, called "Swing 'n' Stride" this year, follows the concert at 9 p.m. in Thwing Center.

Homecoming concludes on October 13, when the Peter B. Lewis building will be open to the public for the first time. Tours will be offered between noon and 5 p.m., with special alumni sneak preview tours beginning at 10:30 a.m. Free, timed tickets are available at the Cleveland Museum of Art's Visitor Service Center at 1-888-CMA-0033.
