Ohio's secretary of state, J. Kenneth Blackwell (center), was the guest speaker last Friday at the weekly Public Affairs Discussion Group. The event focused on electoral reform. With Blackwell are series organizers Joseph White (left) of political science and Jeffrey Bendix of University communication. Since becoming secretary of state in 1999, Blackwell has worked with the state legislature to codify the state's election procedures and practices, define what constitutes a vote in regard to punch-card ballots, and address the handling of the armed forces' absentee ballots. He also serves on the Federal Elections Commission Advisory Panel.
