The Parade the Circle Celebration returns to Wade Oval from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10. University Circle Inc. and the Cleveland Museum of Art host the event, now in its 10th year. The parade again begins at noon. The sponsor is Metropolitan Bank & Trust.
This year's parade celebrates the world's myriad cultures and the blending of artistic influences. The theme is "Painting Songs, Weaving Rhythms."
The free, daylong event of brilliant color, creative energy, delicious foods, music and dance performances on three stages, and hands-on activities for adults and children attracts 1,700 parade participants and 35,000 visitors to the circle.
Following the parade, more than University Circle organizations -- including CWRU -- will sponsor activities tents around Wade Oval. Now called "Circle Village," there will be four sections of activities connected by three brilliantly colorful gateways. Cleveland Heights artist Joan Damankos designed the gateways, and Michael Lee Poy and Vanessa North fabricated them.
In the Circle Village's south quad, CWRU's School of Dentistry will offer a hands-on display on "Celebrating Healthy Smiles."
Several members of CWRU's Staff Advisory Council have volunteered to help UCI with set-up, clean-up, and food sales activities at the event.
With questions on the parade, call the art museum at 421-7340 extension 483. For details on Circle Village, contact UCI at 707-5020.
