Position Description
Objective: To provide leadership of Information Services, including networking, architecture, application development, and operations, and to serve as chief advisor to the President in strategic planning for the acquisition, use, and growth of campus-wide information resources in support of education, research, and administrative operations.
Opportunity: At CWRU, it is critical that technology be used to its fullest effect as a principal means by which information is made available in support of learning, research, and administration. The Vice President for Information Services will apply and leverage technological resources to give members of the University a competitive advantage whether they are engaged in instruction, research, or administrative work. As a result, CWRU will be positioned strategically as an innovative institution committed to excellence and employing information technology to maximum advantage.
The successful candidate will also be a leader in information services beyond the walls of the immediate campus, initiating partnerships with medical and cultural institutions and with industry and other colleges and universities to explore innovative uses of information technology.
Specific Responsibilities:
- To develop and execute a strategy that will position the University as a leader in the deployment of computers, networks, and information resources in support of education, research, administrative operations, and campus life.
- To work with the Provost and University Vice President, University staff, and the deans, faculty, and students of every academic division to develop innovative information systems to enrich teaching and learning, research, professional development, career opportunities, and campus life experiences including, but not limited to, promoting initiatives in distance education, instructional multimedia, e-learning, and electronic classrooms that benefit all members of the CWRU community.
- To collaborate with the Vice President for Finance and Administration and other administrators in envisioning and discovering opportunities and developing imaginative strategies to improve the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of a broad range of business and facilities services.
- To collaborate with the Director of the University Library, the heads of other campus libraries, faculty members, and Cleveland's University Circle institutions to produce and extend access to digital collections of unique online resources, audio archives, and scholarly research.
- To lead the University's efforts to form strategic partnerships with other institutions of higher education, with neighboring University Circle institutions, and with corporate and industrial entities as well as government and non-profit sectors for the development of innovative uses of information resources (e.g. Internet 2). Special opportunities and challenges are presented by the University's relationships with health care, economic development, and the region's cultural, artistic, and human services activities.
- To build and manage user and technical support services that assist students, faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as the broader community, in their use of campus IT resources.
- To develop policies for access to and funding of the University's network services and information resources. To seek funding from external sources in support of new information systems initiatives to enrich the educational and research programs of the University.
- To maintain an awareness of changes in information technology and their potential for enhancing the information services, and to communicate these to others.

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated record of broadly based, progressively more responsible experience with information and communication systems
- A vision for future directions of information services
- Outstanding leadership and management skills and technical expertise
- Knowledge of academic and administrative computing needs, resources, and applications
- Effective in communicating strategies, policies, and actions to internal and external constituencies
- An advanced degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred.
