Nominations are open for the 2000 President's Award for Distinguished Service, which annually honors up to three staff members who most exemplify outstanding University citizenship through excellence in performance, service, and commitment to the University.
Candidates must have at least five years of full-time service (or the equivalent service hours for part-time employees) in a permanent non-faculty position, either the exempt or non-exempt category.
President David Auston will present the awards, which are now in their ninth year. The Staff Advisory Council's Staff Recognition Committee reviews nominations and recommends recipients.
Honorees receive $500 cash awards, their names are inscribed on a plaque displayed in Tomlinson Hall, and they are recognized at the annual Staff Service Awards Luncheon held in June.
Supervisors, faculty, staff, or students may nominate staff members for the award. Nomination forms will be circulated with January 31 paychecks. The nomination form is on the Web at http://www.cwru.edu/president/sac/2000pres.html.
Nominators must solicit two letters of recommendation to accompany the nomination form and their own letter of recommendation. No other supporting documentation is necessary or will be accepted.
Nomination materials should not include comments that are more typical of performance reviews. Rather, illustrate how the nominee exhibits outstanding University citizenship beyond fulfilling their job responsibilities.
Submit nomination materials by March 17 to SAC's Staff Recognition Committee c/o Glenda Gamble, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 409 Glennan Building, location code 7222.
Past winners of the award are Mary Lou Cantini, Frances Cort, Richard Howe, Carol Fagalar, Steve Marine, Naomi Williams, Louis Martino, Alex Schnittlinger, Annie Spence, Bill Frank, JoAnn Stiggers, Phyllis Richards, George Cadwallader, Dorothy Caplin, Adria Sankovic, Dave Conger, Charlotte Horton, Peggie Roberts, Marlene English, Judith Olson-Fallon, Dewitt Aniton, Pamela Chamar, and Deborah Fatica.
The program honors the late Rose Shaerban, "a University employee whose qualities and commitment have set a standard for distinguished service," the award plaque states. Shaerban was assistant editor of Campus News at the time of her death in 1989.
