VOICEOVER: AN INNOVATIVE ENVIRONMENT PRODUCES INNOVATIVE STUDENTS. THAT'S THE PHILOSOPHY AT CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY'S WEATHERHEAD SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT. IT'S ALSO WHY THE UNIVERSITY IS LOOKING FORWARD TO COMPLETION OF ITS NEW BUILDING, WHICH HAPPENS TO BE NO ORDINARY STRUCTURE. THE PETER B. LEWIS BUILDING, NAMED FOR THE CHAIRMAN OF PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE, AND THE MAJOR FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTOR, IS DESIGNED BY WORLD FAMOUS ARCHITECT FRANK GEHRY, DESIGNER OF THE GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM IN BILBAO, SPAIN. GEHRY'S DESIGNS ARE KNOWN FOR ECCENTRIC TWISTS AND TURNS, BENDING STEEL INTO SHAPES THAT TWIST THE EMOTIONS OF THE OBSERVER.

SOT & SUGGESTED SUPER: FRANK GEHRY, ARCHITECT

VIDEO: Cut to shots of model of Gehry's new Case Western Reserve University building. Cut to live shots of building.

INTERVIEW: "Why these shapes? Why do you twist and turn like that. Why would anybody do that? It has to do with my belief that a building can have feeling. That there can be buildings that are deadly inert and don't give you anything. My favorite buildings, you either hate 'em or you love 'em. You get emotional. You can go into great buildings and they evoke some kind of an emotion and a lot of modern architecture is deadly and doesn't." (TRT :35)

More shots of building construction.

VOICEOVER: WILLIAM LAIDLAW, INTERIM DEAN AND A PROFESSOR AT THE WEATHERHEAD SCHOOL, FEELS GEHRY'S DESIGN SPEAKS FOR THE SCHOOL AND IT'S STUDENTS.

SOT & SUGGESTED SUPER: WILLIAM LAIDLAW JR., INTERIM DEAN AND PROFESSOR, CWRU WEATHERHEAD SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

INTERVIEW: "The effect that this building will have on Weatherhead students I think will be to make it clear to them that the way management is practiced and therefore the way management is taught in the 21st century is different than the way it was taught in the 20th century. The building itself represents thinking outside of the box. The building represents thinking innovatively. The building represents thinking creatively and not approaching problems the way we did before." (TRT :24)

VOICEOVER: FRANK GEHRY'S NEW LANDMARK IS BEING BUILT IN CLEVELAND'S UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, HOME OF MANY OF THE CITY'S WORLD-CLASS MUSEUMS AND THE CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA. THE BUILDING IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED EARLY NEXT YEAR.
