Cast members rehearse a scene from subUrbia, which will be on stage at Eldred Theater through November 18.

CLEVELAND -- The parking lot of a mini-mall convenience store becomes the setting for Eric Bogosian's contemporary drama, subUrbia. A cast of CWRU undergraduates will perform the play at Eldred Theater at 8 p.m. November 15-17, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday, November 18.

Joseph Fahey, CWRU visiting assistant professor of theater arts, will direct the work, which explores the human cost of endless suburban sprawl. He is assisted by Andrew Shrout, a CWRU senior.

In a world shaped by Bogosian's biting humor, the young men and women and their asphalt hangout capture the darkest undercurrents of contemporary American life. The emptiness of their lives crystallizes in one explosive night when an old friend's return brings forth a convulsion of jealousy, violence, and hatred that ends in tragedy.

Set and lighting designs for subUrbia are by Russ Borski, CWRU associate professor of theater arts. Costume designs are by guest artist Aimee Kluiber. CWRU undergraduate Nancy Browning is stage manager.

Tickets are $9 for general admission, $7 for CWRU personnel or adults over 60, and $5 for students. For information or reservations, call 216-368-6262.

Due to the mature subject matter, the play is not recommended for children. Some audience members may find the play objectionable because of sexual and racial content and the use of profane language.
