Stein
lectureship to focus on World Bank

CLEVELAND -- "Conflict and Consensus in Orientation to Social Change: The Role of the World Bank" will be the topic of the 2001 Herman D. Stein Lectureship in International Social Welfare at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. The lecture will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 30 in room 320 at MSASS. It is free and open to the public. Speakers at the conference will be Lennox Joseph, senior change consultant at the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., and Param Srikantia, associate professor of business administration at Baldwin Wallace College. In addition to his position at the World Bank, Joseph is an organizational development consultant and trainer in private practice in Washington, specializing in organizational transformation and renewal. From 1991-97 he was president and chief executive officer of NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, an organization which focuses on democratizing the workplace. Before that he was president and senior consultant for the Inguz Group of Ohio. He has done extensive work internationally in Asia, Europe, and South America. Joseph is an adjunct professor at American University and a board member of the REAP Gallery for Creating and Managing Change in Seattle; Path Setters of Santa Cruz, California, and Turtle Studios of Alexandria, Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational development from CWRU's Weatherhead School of Management and a degree in social psychology from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. Before joining the faculty of Baldwin Wallace, Srikantia was an instructor at Weatherhead and a program officer for an international educational organization established by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He has also served as a consultant for USAID, the World Bank, Catholic Relief Services, and Arthur Andersen & Co. Previously he was country head of human resources for American Cynamid Company, and personnel manager for the Unilever Group. Srikantia has authored 27 papers that have been published or presented at conferences and workshops in the United States, Asia, and Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Weatherhead, an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in psychology from the University of Bombay, and an M.A. in industrial relations from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Bombay. Now in its fourth year, the Stein lectureship honors a former dean of the Mandel School for his lifework and accomplishments including program and organizational initiatives, research, and teaching in international social welfare. It is designed to bring to the Mandel School lively discussion around timely topics that will inspire students and professionals alike to consider issues of community, compassion, and democracy around the globe.
