CLEVELAND -- For 13 years, Norman Schnepf nurtured a generation of new art teachers graduating from CWRU. The Art Education Program at Case Western Reserve University and the Ohio Art Education Association will honor the late art educator with a special exhibit "Tribute to Norm Schnepf: Art Educator." The show runs November 12-19, with a public reception from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, November 16 in CWRU's Wickenden Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

Schnepf passed away September 24 at the age of 76. His career as an art educator spanned 48 years, beginning in 1953 as an art teacher at Midview Local School. He had a 31-year career as an art teacher with the Avon Lake City Schools. The Wickenden Gallery exhibit features the high school, college, and professional art work of his Avon Lake students.

After leaving the Avon schools, he instructed art classes at Kent State University, Lorain Community College, Cuyahoga Community College, and Cleveland State University. From 1988-2001, he oversaw the student teaching program at CWRU.

In addition to teaching, he also exhibited his enamel art work and paintings. He showed his work in Cleveland May Shows at the Cleveland Museum of Art and CWRU Faculty Art Shows at Mather Gallery.

In 1985, he was named the Ohio Art Educator of the year, and in 1991 was selected as a Distinguished Fellow of Ohio Art Education by the Ohio Art Education Association. He was a member of the OAEA, and this year would have marked his 30th anniversary as the association's treasurer.

The Wickenden Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Wickenden building on the Case Quad. For more information, call 216-368-2714.
