MEMS research at CWRU

Case Western Reserve University researchers are among national leaders in developing microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology, which integrates sensors, actuators, and electronics on the same silicon chip. MEMS devices can be used in such things as pressure sensors in "smart" tires, accelerometers to deploy air bags, and sensors to detect ice on airplane wings.

CWRU has been a pioneer in MEMS technology for 30 years with its research in solid state transducers. The University is ranked as having one of the top four programs in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) in the country.
