Law forums are on aftermath of September 11 attacks

CLEVELAND -- The Case Western Reserve University School of Law's Frederick K. Cox International Law Center and the Journal of International Law will conduct two open forum discussions on the international and domestic consequences of the September 11 terrorist attack.

The first forum will focus on U.S. foreign relations and international legal issues. It will take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, October 1 in the Moot Court Room (A59) of the law school.

The following will be among special guests at the first forum:

  • Ambassador Charlie Dunbar, who served in the foreign service for 20 years in the Middle East and Near East, including two years as head of the American embassy in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation
  • Ken Grundy, the Hanna Professor of Political Science and former director of CWRU's Center for Public Policy
  • Sidney Picker, professor of law and founding director of the Cox Center
  • Henry King, professor of law and a former prosecutor at the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal

The second forum will focus on the domestic legal and economic aspects of the attacks. It will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 10 at the law school.

Here are some of the special guests expected at this event:

  • Ted Gup, the Shirley Wormser Professor of Journalism in CWRU's Department of English and an expert on the CIA
  • Lewis Katz, the Hutchins Professor of Law and an expert on criminal law and procedure
  • David Leopold, an expert on immigration
  • Sam Thomas, a lecturer in banking and finance at CWRU's Weatherhead School of Management

Moderating both events will be Hiram Chodosh, professor and director of the Cox Center.

The events are free and open to the public. A reception will follow each.
