"You are being honored for distinguished contributions to the understanding of cosmology and for outstanding contributions to the communication of science to the general public," wrote Richard Nicholson, AAAS executive director, in a congratulatory letter. Since 1874, the AAAS has recognized members who have made distinguished efforts to advance science socially or scientifically as fellows. Krauss has promoted science through his books, lectures, media interviews, and the writing of opinion pieces to counter nonsense about non-science. He is the author of Fear of Physics, The Physics of Star Trek, Beyond Star Trek, Atom: An Odyssey from the Big Bang to Life on Earth ... and Beyond, and Quintessence. His work in communicating science has earned him the 1999-2000 AAAS Award for the Public Understanding of Science, the American Institute of Physics' Andrew W. Gemant Award, and the Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Award from the American Physical Society. |
